2-1/2 Style Saw Bits will fit only a 2-1/2 Style shank / saw. 2-1/2 Style bits are a "Single Circle" design. This compact form allows for more teeth to be put into a given saw diameter than the double circle design of BF bits. 2-1/2 Style bits are well suited to processing small, knotty logs at high feed speeds. A saw with the maximum number of teeth permits the fasting possible carriage speed, resulting in maximum production from the saw. Regular and Long type bits can be used with Regular, Super style shanks. Many sawyers find the long type bit does not run as smooth as a Regular type bit until after is has been sharpened a few times. This owes to the longer swage taking a larger bite while it is new. 2-1/2 Style Standall and Dominator type bits should only be used with Regular style shanks. This owes to the fact that it is not advisable to have a chip breaker on both the bit and the shank. One serves to nullify the benefit of the other with the only result being a smaller gullet area.
